Oxygen and Weight Loss, Metabolic Balance Style

How does oxygen affect our weight releasing strategies.

Most of us know that we need oxygen to live. But why has it been put into our physiology, what does it do that is so dang important?

How does oxygen work

Firstly we breath in valuable oxygen from the air. The air has a mishmash of ingredients in it, and we require 19.5% to 23.5% approximately to be oxygen. Our regular air is around 21% oxygen.

Our bodies breath in the air and our lungs exchange the oxygen for other toxins, that we breath out. The oxygen enters our blood stream and attaches onto the red blood cells. It then gets delivered into our cells.

Oxygen helps create ATP, or cellular energy and is super important when we exercise. We obviously need this energy to have a great workout. Oxygen combines with glucose to convert to cellular energy. If there is not enough oxygen, then glucose may not get converted to ATP, and instead, the glucose may convert to lactic acid which can cause fatigue. We use up a lot of this oxygen during exercise. In fact, our bodies can get quite sick without enough oxygen, an issue called hypoxia. Hypoxia can lead to all kinds of ailments including an extra amount of cortisol being released into the body, which also leads to weight gain.

Metabolic Balance and Oxygen

During times of oxygen starvation, our bodies have a hard time turning glucose into ATP. So instead the insulin, that normally delivers the glucose, won’t get used in this process and instead return the glucose to our fat stores, or convert it into cholesterol. This is one reason why we don’t recommend exercise during the first 16 days of the Metabolic Balance Program. Since we are resetting the metabolism and repairing our issues with insulin resistance, its important to allow the cells to start working properly and accepting the oxygen available to it. If we deplete the available oxygen through exercise, then insulin resistance correction can take longer.

Metabolic Balance has done comparisons between different individuals on this great Program, between whether or not the participants choose to exercise or not. Now remember, each individual is biologically different and some will require more time without exercise than others. However, that being said, there has been greater success during the first 16 days of conversion with people who choose self-care in the form of reading, relaxing, slow walks, yoga, etc., than exercises that bring the heart rate up like aerobic exercise, jogging, etc., for weight release.

After the Strict Phase, you can resume your amazing exercise activity levels because your metabolism has reset itself, your issues with insulin resistance are at a minimum, and your hormones are now correcting themselves with the wonderful nutrition you are feeding yourself. And we encourage great exercise after this initial reset, so that your muscles can do the job of accessing the oxygen to help in the conversion of it to cellular energy.

Recipe: Applesauce

On Metabolic Balance we require one daily apple, including its skin. Just underneath its skin, an apple has a ton of phytonutrients that can help prevent spikes in blood sugar, bind with toxic bile, lower risk of asthma and lung cancer, and fight free radicals. Ensure you get to have one of these special varieties daily.

Makes 8-10 servings

Ingredients

10 apples (or enough to fit into your Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker)

1 C of water

1-2 TBSP of Ghee or Coconut Oil

1-2 TSP of CinnamonPinch of Salt

Using your pressure cooker or Instant Pot, core the apples and place into the pot. Add the water. Put the lid on and lock it. Program it to bring just up to pressure. You don’t even have to put it on for a minute. Its enough to soften all of your glorious apples. When done, pressure release and transfer the apples and water to your Vitamix or other blender. Add in the Ghee or Coconut Oil (we actually use coconut/ghee), cinnamon and salt. Blend together on high until smooth. When done transfer to the appropriate amount of jars and put in the fridge.

This makes a delicious apple sauce that tastes amazingly sweet so no sugar is added. You can add this great applesauce to any of your dishes, yoghurt, pork chops, mandelaide, or just eat it right out of the jar. Delicious.

Serve & enjoy!

Tip: During Strict Phase 2, do not add coconut oil or ghee. It still tastes just as amazing.
